John Allen

John Allen is the Chief Executive of the New Zealand Post Group having been appointed to this role in May 2003.

As Chief Executive John leads a business with more than 17,000 people working for it, operating in locations the length and breadth of not only New Zealand, but also with employees in Australia and further afield. The business has revenues in excess of $1 billion dollars, and has returned almost the equivalent in dividends and taxes to the shareholder since becoming a State Owned Enterprise in 1987.While at New Zealand Post, John has led a successful diversification of the business which has seen the establishment of Kiwibank, Express Couriers and Datamail, and seen a determined focus on the continued development of the value of the letter for businesses to reach and attract customers.

Prior to taking over the helm at the SOE, John held a number of senior management roles within the business, including CEO of the Letters and Enterprise Group from 2001 to 2003 and previously as leader of New Zealand Post’s Postal Services Group where he was responsible for developing and implementing the strategies which took the Company into a deregulated postal market.

Before joining New Zealand Post in 1996, John was a Partner with the law firm, Rudd, Watts & Stone.
