Inland Revenue

Topic : Engagement Survey

Goals

  • Employer of Choice

Summary

In 2005 Inland Revenue was the first government department to adopt an Engagement survey rather than the more traditional Satisfaction survey. This process relates directly to the Employer of Choice development goal by ensuring that the State Services is attractive to high achievers with a commitment to service.

The case study will discuss:

  • How this approach links to the Development Goals
  • The nature of Engagement and its relationship to organisational performance
  • Inland Revenue’s specific reasons for the move away from traditional surveys
  • The challenge of organisational learning
  • Selecting a survey provider – Gallup
  • Survey results and implementation lessons
  • Drawing the strategic threads and integrating engagement into business as usual
